BURST PIPES

A burst pipe is classed as a water emergency and can cause serious damage to the structure of a building and electrical wiring. It is vital to take action as soon as you discover a burst pipe.

WHAT TO DO IN A BURST PIPE SITUATION

  • 1. Turn off main water supply.
    Turn off the water supply at the main. If you are unsure of the location of the main or how to turn off the water supply, contact MT Plumbing 24/7 for immediate advice and assistance. In the instance of a hot water leak, turn off the main water supply and the hot water supply. MT Plumbing can guide you through this process.
  • 2. Drain the system.
    Once the main water supply has been turned off. Turn on all cold water taps to drain remaining water in the pipes. Only drain the hot water taps, when the hot water supply has also been turned off.
  • 3. Turn off electrics.
    If water from the burst pipe is leaking near electrics or appliances, switch off the mains immediately.
